Six people were reportedly killed and thousands evacuated from a luxury cruise ship on Friday after it ran aground andHolidaymakers were forced to flee the 1,500-cabin Costa Concordia in lifeboats when it hit a reef less than two hours after leaving port.
Some leapt overboard and swam to shore as the brightly-lit ship started to sink into the black waters near the island of Giglio, off the Tuscan coast.
Italian media reported that six people died aboard the luxury liner and others may have been injured as the coastguard struggled to rescue the few remaining passengers.
Pregnant women and young children were among the 3,200 passengers and 1,000 crew who made it to safety.
Passengers' dinner was interrupted by a loud boom at around 8pm and a voice over the tannoy initially claimed that the ship was suffering an electrical failure, before ordering everyone onboard to don life-jackets. began to sink off the coast of Italy.

Bulls vs Celtics - Derrick Rose Beyond Amazing Layup
After sitting out Wednesday night's matchup with the Washington Wizards, Derrick Rose made his return to the Chicago Bulls lineup on Friday against the Celtics. Rose, who has been dealing with turf toe, looked little worse for wear as he carved up the Boston defense early and often, scoring a game-high 25 points in an 88-79 Chicago win.
It was a tale of two halves for the Bulls, with the first half going about as well as it could. After opening up a 52-33 lead heading into the half, though, Chicago began to falter in the second as Boston came to life. The double-digit lead evaporated early in the fourth as the Celtics pulled to within one, threatening to finally retake the lead.
It never happened, though, as Chicago stayed one-step ahead, using a quick spurt to gain some breathing room and hanging on down the stretch for a nine-point win. All five Chicago starters were in double-figures, with Luol Deng (21 points and 16 rebounds) and Joakim Noah (10 points and 12 rebounds) each notching double-doubles.

Angry customers and gangs of scalpers threw eggs at Apple Inc.'s flagship Beijing store Friday after its opening for the China launch of the iPhone 4S was canceled due to concerns over the size of the crowd.
Apple reacted to the outburst by postponing iPhone 4S sales in its mainland China stores to protect the safety of customers and employees. It said the phone still will be sold online and through its local carrier.
The incident highlighted Apple's huge popularity in China and the role of middlemen who buy up limited supplies of iPhones and other products or smuggle them from abroad for resale to Chinese gadget fans at a big markup.

Dwight Howard broke Wilt Chamberlain's nearly 50-year-old NBA record for most free throw attempts in a game, making 21 of 39 in the Orlando Magic's 117-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night.
The Warriors hacked Howard intentionally throughout, sending the notoriously poor shooter to the line in record-setting fashion. Chamberlain shot 34 for the Philadelphia Warriors against St. Louis on Feb. 22, 1962.
Howard finished with 45 points and 23 rebounds, and Hedo Turkoglu scored 20 points to propel the Magic to their third straight victory.
Monta Ellis had 30 points and 11 rebounds and David Lee added 26 points and 12 rebounds for the short-handed Warriors, playing without starters Stephen Curry and Dorell Wright.

Heather Locklear Hospitalized
Authorities say Heather Locklear was taken to a Southern California hospital for precautionary reasons after an emergency call was made from her home.
Paramedics and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday afternoon to Locklear's home in Westlake Village, which is 35 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Mike Aranda says he did not know Locklear's condition but deputies are not investigating.
Locklear has been hospitalized several times over the years. In 2009, she pleaded no contest to reckless driving after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication.
The 50-year-old actress's publicists did not return messages seeking comment.
Locklear and "Melrose Place" co-star Jack Wagner recently ended their engagement. She was previously married to Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, and they have a daughter together.

Pentagon officials vowed Wednesday that a video posted online purportedly showing U.S. Marines in Afghanistan urinating on dead Taliban fighters will be "fully investigated."
The video appeared to surface first on YouTube shortly before midnight Tuesday. It includes a caption indicating that the Marines were members of Scout Sniper Team 4, a Marine Corps unit that has served on the front lines of the war in Afghanistan this year.
The footage, lasting just 39 seconds, shows four Marines in full combat gear urinating on the bodies of three dead men, bearded and dressed in traditional Afghan garb. The Marines can be heard laughing and joking. "Have a great day, buddy," one says.
